Gold Medal - UnderwaterPhotography.com 2011/12 Awards
01st February 2012
An early success in 2012 - this image I took in Wraysbury Lake was awarded the Gold Medal in the Freshwater category of the 2011/12 UnderwaterPhotography.com annual awards.

This international contest is the longest running and one of the most prestigious online. Winning here is one of Underwater Photography's most coveted accolades because it says that you succeeded in the most competitive environment there is - against the top talent of the moment.

Every January a panel of judges select the best images entered in this online photo contest from the previous year. From a total of over 11,000 entries Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals are awarded for the top three from each category in order of merit.

In addition to the Gold Medal award, two of my images achieved Runner Up in the Natural Light and Topside categories respectively:

Whale Sharks of Djibouti
22nd January 2012
Following a recent trip with Martin & Sylvia Edge to photograph Whale Sharks in the Gulf of Aden, Djibouti I have added a portfolio of some of the images I took.

Djibouti is an exceptional area for observing whale sharks. Although they are generally solitary creatures, they congregate in the Bay of Tadjoura to feast on the high concentrations of plankton.

The portfolio can be found under "Underwater Photography" or alternatively click on this Whale Shark image below to go to the collection.

A shot which I took on a recent Red Sea trip was the winning image in the UnderwaterPhotography.com November Hotshots Photo Contest.
The study of a wreck interior was taken on a dive on the Tug Boat wreck at Abu Galawa during a Martin Edge Red Sea trip in October 2011.
