Winner - 'British Underwater Photographer of the Year 2017'
05th March 2017

Absolutely delighted and very proud to be awarded the prestigious title of 'British Underwater Photographer of the Year 2017' in the Underwater Photographer of the Year Competition.

The 2017 competition, which was judged by Alex Mustard, Martin Edge and Peter Rowlands, received over 4,500 entries in total, from 67 countries.

My image is of Kukulkan Cenote on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsular. It forms part of the Chac Mool system and is noted for the spectacular light effects as the sun penetrates the darkness.
Shooting natural light only, my favourite style of underwater photography, the rock outline of the cavern around me made for a pleasing symmetry and Andreas Costanza, my dive buddy and guide edged into the stronger beams of light to complete the composition.
