Photo Gear

Each image in my portfolio has details of the camera I have used and the settings. A summary of my camera equipment both for underwater and above the water photography is below:-

Underwater Photography
I use Nikon DSLRs and Sea & Sea MDX Housings. Many of the underwater images in my portfolios were taken with a Nikon D300, though more recently I have been using a Nikon D810 Full Frame camera.

I have also experimented with film underwater, spending the winter of 2014 shooting a Nikon F80 in a Sea & Sea Housing at dive sites around the UK - a project which brought many useful learnings which I could apply to shooting with digital cameras.

I use 2 Inon Z240 strobes with ultralight arms and a range of macro and dome ports, including Pro One and Zen dome ports for wide angle.

Lens choice was typically the Nikon 10.5mm and Tokina 10-17mm for cropped sensor cameras, though more recently with a move to Full Frame the Nikon 16mm fish eye and Nikon 16-35mm F4 lenses for wide angle and Nikon 60mm and 105mm lenses for macro.

A set of Magic Filters for my favourite subject - Natural Light completes the set up.

The image below shows my current underwater photography configuration with a Nikon D810, Inon strobes and Zen 230 wide angle dome port.

Above the Water Photography
My main camera is now a Nikon D810 however I enjoy shooting film and also own and regularly use a Nikon F6. Being something of a Fujista, I do also use Fuji S5 Pro SLR bodies, one of which I have had specially converted for Infrared photography.

I use a variety of lenses including the Carl Zeiss Distagon 21mm, Nikon 16-35mm F4, Nikon 24-70mm F2.8, Nikon 50mm F1.4 and Nikon 70-200mm F4, along with Lee filters.
